11.) Cuahtemoc to San Juanito (edge of Copper Canyon)

We turn south off of Route 16 at Adolfo Lopez to the south - towards Creel and Copper Canyon. Almost immediately, we begin gaining altitude. The approach to Creel is like a semi arid highland, not unlike some parts of California. These images are taken right after turning south towards Creel.

About 50 miles south of Route 16, we have gained enough altitude that there is a major biome change. We are in an alpine environment, with pine, cedar, and spruce trees. The aroma of pine pitch is in the air as we ride. Scenery becomes very beautiful.

Numerous little ranches dot the landscape, and I can't help but say to myself, "man, these guys have it made!"

The roads start to get twistier:

We stay in San Juanito to avoid the high prices we suspect we would find in Creel, which is a touristy town. We are in luck and pay $12 bux for a great room.

It even had air conditioning. And all wiring was done according to proper electrical code.
